Canals

One of the easiest ways to travel by bike is by way of the canals. The offer a great way to get up and down the valley whilst avoiding those pesky hills (of which there are many!). The canal runs just behind the shop so if you can make it here, someone can point you in the right direction. The Sustrans route 66 runs along the length of the valley, using the canals and designated cycle paths.

Just off the canal as you reach Sowerby Bridge, you'll find The Puzzle Hall, a cosy little boozer with live music more often than not! Heading the other way to Todmorden you'll find a whole host of great cafés, pubs and shops. Make sure to check out the Folklore Centre which has a programe of fun mythic exhibitions.

Mountain Biking

If you do fancy tackling some of those aformentoned hills there's some incredible mountain biking out of Hebden Bridge. Places of note to head: Stoodley Pike - Great rock garden on the other side, Pecket Well - Some pretty gnarly and well used singletrack, London Road - your ticket out of the valley, follow it and you'll find your way out to the good stuff!

Below you'll find a link to our "Round the Block" route, this covers about 20km of pretty chilled singletrack, bridleways and lanes to give you a quick taster of the area.

Yorkshire Divide

Those with an appetite for miles (and suffering!) might fancy having a look at what our friend Adrian has to offer. He plans frequent rides in the Calder valley starting from various points, including Blazing Saddles. Some of the old routes are avaialable to view on his website at the link below. You might not fancy taking on the big one, but the Mills and Moors routes are shorter day rides that loop around. Have a little look, you might find some inspiration for a ride.
